Posebno poglavlje u radu udruženja predstavlja osnivanje Art brut studija VMA u Dnevnoj bolnici Klinike za psihijatriju Vojnomedicinske akademije (VMA) u Beogradu.
Stalni je učesnik i saradnik u programu Alternativnog kulturnog centra Matrijaršija u Beogradu (međunarodni festival nezavisnog stripa Novo Doba; nezavisni štand umetnosti i izdavaštva Fijuk sajam).
Veoma važna aktivnost udruženja jeste kreiranje, očuvanje i izlaganje svoje umetničke kolekcije. Sama kolekcija se sastoji od: a) radovi bivših i sadašnjih članova udruženja Art Brut Serbia, b) umetnički radovi inostranih umetnika- Samaneh Atef (Iran/ Francuska), Simon Petković (Hrvatska/Australija), Peter Kapeller (Austrija/Museum Gugging), Tambet Tamm (Estonija/Kondas Centre), Darko Brajković (Hrvatska), Hubert Duprilot (Francuska), Adam Nidzgorski (Francuska), c) crteži ljudi iz Art brut studija VMA, odnosno pacijenta Dnevne bolnice i Kluba lečenih psihoza Klinike za psihijatriju Vojnomedicinske akademije, d) crteži građana sa radionica Dubinskog crteža iz zemlje i inostranstva, e) otkupljene slike pacijenata Specijalne bolnice Centralnog zatvora u Beogradu, f) crteži dece i mladih osoba ometenih u razvoju, g) crteži umetnika i civila nastalih u vreme NATO bombardovanja SRJ, h) crteži štićenika Kazneno-popravnog zavoda za maloletnike iz Beograda, i) slike štićenika Kazneno-poravne ustanove Gevgelija, Severna Makedonija, j) crtež albanskih članova ljubitelja umetnosti MURALFEST-a KOSOVA, Uroševac (Kosovo i Metohija).
-----ENGLISH-----
Life in Serbia after the breakup of Yugoslavia, marked by strong economic inflation and crises, wars, crime and political transition, did not hinder the artist's need for consistent artistic expression and sources of creative motivation based on resistance to new social circumstances. The idea of establishing the association Art Brut Serbia is precisely the product of such a time, which inevitably brings the problem of the destabilized psychological state of individuals and the entire society. Observed in the context of art history, similar social circumstances caused the emergence of the avant-garde artistic tendency Art Brut, whose founder Jean Dubuffet in 1945 draws attention to the raw (academic/culturally untainted) art of people from the margins. Given that the concept of normality in the modern world has been brought to absurdity and is used to disqualify any form of creativity of "wayward" people, the association Art Brut Serbia is working on re-examining that concept and through various activities is pointing out the importance of this type of creativity in Serbia as well as abroad.
Association Art Brut Serbia (ABS) was formally founded in February 2014 in Belgrade. From the very beginning, the goal of the association is to discover and include new, "invisible" creators and talents in social and cultural-artistic life. Through artistic actions, open workshops in different places of Serbia and the region, with different people, in different circumstances (from children and youth with developmental disabilities or without parental care, psychiatric patients, refugees, prisoners to "ordinary" citizens oversaturated with official culture and art) created is a network of friendship and support.
During its ten-year existence, the ABS association has initiated, organized and participated in numerous exhibitions and various projects in our country and abroad. A special chapter in the work of the association is the establishment of the Art brut studio VMA in the Day Hospital of the Psychiatry Clinic of the Military Medical Academy (VMA) in Belgrade. Art brut studio VMA has been operating since the beginning of 2015 and is included in the regular program of treatment for patients of the Day Hospital and patients of the Club of treated psychoses of the Clinic for Psychiatry of the VMA. It is significant that this is the first Art Brut studio in Serbia, but also in the Balkans.
The association cooperates with numerous organizations of similar interests and activities. It is a regular participant and collaborator in the program of the Alternative Cultural Center Matrijaršija in Belgrade (international festival of independent comics Novo Doba; independent art and publishing stand Fijuk sajam). In partnership with the Gallery Štab in Belgrade, the association founded the first Balkan Art Brut Salon (BABS) in 2016. With the Independent Art Association Remont from Belgrade, the Deep Drawing project by Goran Stojčetović was established in the form of monthly workshops with citizens, which the artist also applies at the Psychiatry Clinic of the Academy of Medical Sciences. In cooperation with the Museum Halle Saint Pierre, the association presented several of its members in a major exhibition of Balkan contemporary marginalized art Turbulences dans les Balkans. Further, the Art Brut Serbia had the role of mediator and proposer for the selection of artists from the region, as well as the organizer of an additional program during the duration of the exhibition (a two-day workshop of Depth drawing by Goran Stojčetović.
It should be noted the regional cooperation with the Museum of Contemporary Art from Zagreb on the exhibition of Serbian and Croatian marginal artists Dream Catchers (in the Museum of Contemporary Art, Zagreb, 2020 and in the Museum of Naive and Marginal Art, Jagodina, 2022), as well as a special jury award for two members of the association (artists Goran Stojčetović and Life of Milanović) at the Triennial of the Museum of Marginal and Naive Art in Jagodina (2022). The last in a series of large projects is ART BRUT as part of the program Druga? Europe European Capital of Culture 2022 in Novi Sad, whose artistic director and creator was Goran Stojčetović. The project consisted of a number of different activities such as workshops, residencies, exhibitions (Archive of Vojvodina, KS Svilara, Šok Zadruga) in which, in addition to local artists, artists from Croatia, France, Estonia and Austria also participated.
A very important activity of the association is the creation, preservation and exhibition of its own art collection. Long-term cooperation and trust in the goals and mission of Art Brut Serbia have influenced the fact that a large number of artists and creators donate their works to our association. In this way, a collection of about 2000 works by domestic and foreign artists was created. The collection itself consists of: a) works by former and current members of the association Art Brut Serbia, b) artworks by foreign artists - Samaneh Atef (Iran/France), Simon Petković (Croatia/Australia), Peter Kapeller (Austria/Museum Gugging), Tambet Tamm (Estonia/Kondas Centre), Darko Brajković (Croatia), Hubert Duprilot (France), Adam Nidzgorski (France), c) drawings by people from the Art Brut Studio of the VMA, i.e. patients of the Day Hospital and the Treated Psychosis Club of the Psychiatry Clinic of the Military Medical Academy, d) drawings of citizens from Depth drawing workshops from the country and abroad, e) purchased pictures of patients of the Special Hospital of the Central Prison in Belgrade, f) drawings of children and young people with developmental disabilities, g) drawings of artists and civilians created during the NATO bombing of the former Yugoslavia, h) drawings of inmates of the Penitentiary for minors from Belgrade, i) pictures of inmates of the Correctional Institution Gevgelija, North Macedonia, j) drawings of Albanian members of art lovers of MURALFEST KOSOVA, Uroševac (Kosovo and Metohija).
